ANTIGO COLÉGIO SÃO JOSÉ

Os aspectos preservados da arquitetura desta edificação remontam ao início do século XX, quando aqui funcionou o antigo “Collégio São José”, na década de 1920, como instituição particular de ensino masculino. Fundado e dirigido pelo professor Júlio César de Holanda (1869-1945), intelectual poliglota formado na Europa, o educandário oferecia regime de internato e semi-internato, recebendo também matrículas de estudantes provenientes das mais diversas localidades do Ceará. Equiparado aos melhores colégios da época, ofertava o ensino primário e secundário, além de cursos de escrituração mercantil, datilografia, inglês e francês.

The preserved aspects of the architecture of this building date back to the beginning of the 20th century, when the former “Collégio São José” operated here, in the 1920s, as a private institution for male education. Founded and directed by professor Júlio César de Holanda (1869-1945), a polyglot intellectual trained in Europe, the school offered boarding and semi-boarding classes, also receiving enrollments from students from the most diverse locations in Ceará. Equivalent to the best schools of the time, it offered primary and secondary education, as well as courses in commercial bookkeeping, typing, English and French.
