AGÊNCIA DE CORREIOS E TELÉGRAFOS

Construída em 1932, durante o governo provisório de Getúlio Vargas, esta edificação exibe o estilo arquitetônico típico dos anos 1920 e 1930 — o Art Decó — representado pelo uso do concreto armado, de linhas retas, cores neutras, formas retangulares e simétricas. Anteriormente separados, o serviço de telégrafo fundiu-se ao postal somente através do Decreto Federal n.º 20.859, de 26 de dezembro de 1931, que criou Departamento dos Correios e Telégrafos no Brasil. No entanto, a chegada do serviço postal na cidade de Guaramiranga é bem mais antiga, com a primeira agência de correios instalada em 1891 e o telégrafo inaugurado em 1910. Nessa época, cartas e telegramas eram os únicos meios de comunicação à distância existentes na região.

Built in 1932, during the provisional government of Getúlio Vargas, this building exhibits the typical architectural style of the 1920s and 1930s — Art Decó — represented by the use of reinforced concrete, straight lines, neutral colors, rectangular and symmetrical shapes. Previously separated, the telegraph service merged with the postal service only through Federal Decree No. 20,859, of December 26, 1931, which created the Department of Posts and Telegraphs in Brazil. However, the arrival of the postal service in the city of Guaramiranga is much older, with the first post office installed in 1891 and the telegraph inaugurated in 1910. At that time, letters and telegrams were the only means of distance communication existing in the region.
